Reconstruction After Skin Cancer Surgery

Removal of skin cancer either by your dermatologist or plastic surgeon can result in a small defect that can be closed immediately.  It can also create a larger defect that requires more advanced surgical wound closure techniques that need to be performed by a plastic surgeon.  Examples of these techniques are local flap closures and skin grafts.  Although most skin cancer reconstruction procedures can be performed under local anesthetic, there are some that require a general anesthetic.  These are usually the result of removing a large area of cancer or removal of a more advanced melanoma.  Proper evaluation will determine which technique will give you the best result.

Because the defect is created by the removal of cancer, your insurance will usually cover the procedure.  Our staff can assist you if you have any questions regarding coverage.
