Latissmus Dorsi Reconstruction

There are certain patients who may not be eligible for a TRAM flap and still desire the benefits of tissue reconstruction. The Latissimus dorsi flap can provide these benefits. In a Lat. dorsi reconstruction skin, fatty tissue, and muscle are transfered from the back and shoulder region to the mastectomy site and used to reconstruct the breast. An implant is often added beneath the flap for additional volume. This operation can be used to correct problems secondary to lumpectomy and radiation or partial mastectomy. Please check out the ASPS link on breast reconstruction.
