Breast Asymmetry
It is normal to have some variation in size but when this difference is greater than one bra cup size symptoms of neck pain, shoulder and back discomfort may be present. We have techniques to equalize the size of the breasts. If one breast is normal sized and the other much smaller, an implant can be placed much like we do for cosmetic breast enlargement. (See ASPS link) When the asymmetry is do to one side being abnormally large, a one sided breast reduction can be employed to provide relief of symptoms and symmetry.(See ASPS link) Some insurance carriers will cover breast asymmetry especially if the difference is two bra cup sizes and symptoms are present. These procedures are usually performed under general anesthesia as out-patient.
